History

NKT Photonics A/S is one of 3 companies in the NKT Optical Group – all owned by the industrial conglomerate NKT Holding A/S.

We market our products under the brand names Crystal Fibre, AeroLASE, Koheras Fiber laser and SuperK.

NKT has worked with optical technologies since the seventies and especially fiber development and production of such has been core know-how throughout the years.

In 1999 Crystal Fibre A/S was established on the basis of know-how and patented applications of our research scientists. The first product was launched in the summer of 2000 and our product range has been expanded considerably since then. Today we are the industrial fiber supplier, who owns the majority of the patents necessary for production of micro structured fibers. We are the largest and probably the most innovative supplier of micro structured fibers in the world. 

In 2001 Koheras was spun out from another NKT company. However the company had already shipped the first product in 1997. Being one of the first pioneers within the single frequency fiber laser, the Koheras fiber laser is today probably the most precise and lowest noise fiber laser in the world. In 2003 we launched the fiber based Supercontinum white light laser and today the product SuperK has become the industrial standard for broad band white light lasers.In 2009 the new company NKT Photonics A/S was born by combining the above companies. Our mission is to leverage the combined strengths of both companies to better serve the requirements of the photonic industry. With this merger we will be able to service our clients with the most advanced solutions in fiber components, fiber subsystems, ultra precise fiber lasers and fiber based White Light Lasers.
